Junk Salvation was a blast!!!

Here are some quick pictures I took before the flood gates were opened and the fans and customers flowed through the doors of the Funky Junk Sister's Junk Salvation Show.  I was a little nervous because I am still a little young at this "off site show" thing.  Also I was in such AMAZING company and talent it was hard not to feel the pressure.

 The roost spring line of pillows went really well so I have been sewing away to create more for the upcoming shows.

New booth at Aunt Bee's House

 Due to the exiting upcoming season for Roost REimagined I have decided to downsize my booth at Aunt Bee's House.  So I can concentrate on creating some amazing pieces for our Spring show in April at the Mission Mill.  And also our Grand Season Opening at the Barn in May. 

I spent a better part of yesterday getting everything in place in my new location in the B room at Aunt Bee's.  I am super thrill about how it all came together.  Here are a couple quick snaps I took before I left.

Head above water...

So I saw these really great Styrofoam mannequin heads with newspaper plastered all over them in a wig shop a while back.  They were the perfect balance of retro and vintage.  Thinking that this was a very creative idea I stored it in the back of my mind for a later date.  I was recently in a thrift shop and I came across a head for $2 and thought now would be a great time to try something new.  Here is how my project developed...

Supplies

                                                             HEAD                            PAPER

For glue I used Mog Podge

(you can use plain Elmer's glue it just doesn't give as good of a satin finish to the project) 

To apply the glue I used a foam application brush.  

Project

I started out my project by gently covering the head with a little of the glue. Then started to tear the paper into strips that I laid across the surface of the head.  I was having a little bit of a time with the glue being so thick so I decided to water down the glue down so that it wouldn't tear the delicate pattern paper so much.

 After I covered the whole head with the paper I used the thick glue to do a finishing coat on the whole surface of the head.

This is how it turned out after it dried...

I still feel like it needs a little something else so I think I'll make a big chunky ruffle collar tomorrow. 

We'll see but my vintage hats will love a place to strut their stuff.

Under Construction while I am learning to play

Yes you are at the right site Roost Reimagined.  I am learning to play on this blog and change up some backgrounds and headers.  I haven't figured them all out so please bear with me while I figure all these options out.  If I don't figure this out soon I might just have to call a professional.  There is so much to learn!

Today's projects

So today I had all these things planned to do for the Junk Salvation Show in a couple weeks and when I finished with the cocktail tables, backdrops and a couple other things that I had started yesterday I started putting my supplies away I ran across these crates that I had stacked up in a corner of the shed.  So as I sat there and stared at them this wonderful idea floated into my head......

And here is how it turned out!  I think it's fabulous.  It's about 3 feet tall and 18 inches wide perfect for towels and washcloths and toiletries in your bathroom or in your kitchen with onions, potatoes, yams.  It's so versatile. 

Here's a little glass curio box that I embellished and repaired too.

Roost Spring Line of vintage market carts

 So I have been working hard today on getting my spring line of vintage market carts ready for Junk Salvation.  Here are the two that I finished today...

I'm debating on painting PARIS MARKET across the front of this one above.  It just looks a little plain.



This one is so much cuter in person.  This picture is not really very good but I did take it with my phone so I guess as my son says "Ya get whatchya get and you don't throw a fit"  Don't ask me where he got that but it certainly has come in handy around our house.  Well two carts down and three to go...

Clock strikes midnight and I got a third one done!

I guess I'll call it a night!

More weekend projects

 This was a fun project that I did today...

I took cylidar vases that I had some twine and a couple of metal letters and did a fun overhaul on them.



This is how they turned out.  I love the Anthropologie/earthy/urban look that they ended up having.

So after I saw how these turned out I grabbed my everyday glass cannisters and did the same to them.
