New weekend project...

My new project...

This great chaise lounge I picked up at the Junk Salvation Show last month.  My friend Diane (Molly Mo's)got me a screaming deal on it.  The chair has really great bones to it but it needs an overhaul.  I had originally envisioned this chaise in a dove gray canvas but when I got down to it today I fell in love with this champagne silk that I dug out of my mom's closet of magic.  It never ceases to amaze me what she can pull out of that closet of hers.  I have learned two things recently NEVER go to the store without first checking mom's closet and the second is whatever I do find is ALWAYS cheaper to get from her than at the store. (it's either free or I can put it on mommycredit to pay at a later date) 

In starting my project today I got out some wrapping paper and made temporary patterns.  I then cut out the patterns giving lots of allowance for mistakes.

Next I laid out the fabric pieces on the chair where they would eventually go.



My mom and I spent several hours pinning and re-pinning the pieces together.

Then finally sewed the pieces together.

My mom's mischievous cat Charlie thought it would test out the chaise tonight after I was finished for the day.  Why didn't I think of that? (probably cause there are like 50 pins still in that pillow)  I have several more steps to do but this is as far as I got today. 

I hope to finish up tomorrow and I'll post to show how it all came together.  I'm hoping that I got through the tough stuff today because it was a LOT more challenging of a project than I had originally anticipated.  I'm not good at slow and stead wins the race.  I'm more a hurry up and lets get to the next thing kind of person. 

Barn House Inspiration

This last weekend I headed up to Battleground Washington with my mom and friend Kim.  As usual those Barn House Boys really know how to stage a venue.  I have a new favorite in Sparrow too who was their guest vendor for the show.  Everything was so fresh with clean lines yet maintain that warm and open feeling you get with all their sales.  I did come away with some great finds for my house and some inspiration for some new pillows that I have been pondering.  Here's how my pillows turned out...

The buttons on the ticking pillows are actually black checker pieces that I drilled holes into to create upcycled buttons.  The fabric was from some drapes that I tore apart.

This great 70's fabric was one of my purchases from the Ruffles and Rust show I went to last week.

Winding down on the weekend

So I had such a wonderful weekend and it's still not quite over.  I was just so excited to share what I have been up to so far... Friday I headed up to Monroe Washington with my mom and attended the Ruffles and Rust un Marche show that Come Junk with us hosted.  These ladies really know how to throw a party.  The food was amazing, the wines were great and the inspiration and dedication that the vendors of the show provided was easy to see.  Both my mom and I had such a great time looking around at all the creative hats at the show.  I was so excited that I totally forgot to get pictures!  There was however many great photographers there to catch the rusty glamour of the show.

I purposely didn't drive my truck up to this event because I knew if I did I would come back with way too much stuff. I am maxed out on space from hoarding all winter.

I did however find a couple smalls that I couldn't do with out.

There was some great garden stakes that I got from Auntie's, a rusty iron stand from Seabold, and some scraps of fabric from another vendor.  All in all a great show! 

On Saturday I went to Martha's house from Vintage Trifles and had a wonderful time with the girls.  Martha was a wonderful hostess.  She provided a fresh European style breakfast, savory lunch and little snacks throughout the day.

Roost Projects...

Got a great jump on the weekend's list of projects...

Made some new pillows

I found this really great island cabinet at the Junk Salvation Show from my friend Kathleen of Faded Charm http://fadedcharmcottage.blogspot.com/

I had to have it for my kitchen island... But although it was super chic and industrial it was a little too industrial for my kitchen so I decided to REimagine it for my space.  Here's how it turned out...

Picture doesn't really do it justice but I love how it turned out.  However as I excitedly moved it into my kitchen I quickly realized that it was too big.  So as bummed as I am that it won't work for me I am excited to have it at the next show to come.

Studio Play Date...

So I have been pondering for the last year what to do with my Honeymoon pictures of Italy.  I have picked a couple out to have framed and put on the wall but I haven't figured out what to do with the 100+ other photos.  Well I have finally figured it out. 

I'm going over to Vintage Trifles to be a part of her Studio Play Date.

She is featuring a Passport to the Past ...

Using a variety of techniques, Martha will teach us to transform an ordinary file folder into a lovely keepsake “passport” that will feature a special person, significant event, memorable trip or something from your imagination!

For me I'm using this as a Honeymoon memory keepsake.

Junk Salvation was a blast!!!

Here are some quick pictures I took before the flood gates were opened and the fans and customers flowed through the doors of the Funky Junk Sister's Junk Salvation Show.  I was a little nervous because I am still a little young at this "off site show" thing.  Also I was in such AMAZING company and talent it was hard not to feel the pressure.

 The roost spring line of pillows went really well so I have been sewing away to create more for the upcoming shows.
